Privacy policy
What we collect, why we collect it, who else can see it, and how long we keep it.
Who this is about
Kraken Academy Inc. is a Florida not-for-profit corporation at 200 Arlington Drive, Placida, FL 33946. This policy covers www.mykrakenacademy.com and the accounts it holds. It does not cover any other organisation’s website, including ones we link to.
The Academy does not open programs until 2027. Today the site does three things: it explains what is being built, it lets an adult create an account and tell us which of their children may take part, and it lets anyone send us a message.
What we collect
- When an adult creates an account
- First and last name, email address, phone number, date of birth, and a password (stored only as a hash, never as text). Optionally, how you heard about us and anything you chose to tell us in the free-text box at signup.
- When you add a child to your account
- The child's first and last name, their date of birth, and which program and level you are interested in for them. Nothing else about a child is collected anywhere on this site.
- When you send us a message
- Whatever the contact, partner or volunteer form asks for — your name, email, and depending on the form a phone number, organization, city, availability or experience — plus the message itself.
- Automatically, when you are signed in
- A session record holding the IP address and browser user-agent of the device you signed in from, so a session can be recognised and ended. Nothing is recorded for visitors who are not signed in.
Why we collect it
To create and secure your account, to know which children and which programs a family is interested in so we can plan age groups, coaches and fields around real numbers, to answer the messages you send us, and to write to you about program launches, registration openings and Academy news.
We do not sell personal information, we do not share it for advertising, and we do not use it to build a profile of you for any purpose other than running the Academy.
Children’s information
No account on this site belongs to a person under 18. Registration is refused for anyone below that age, and date of birth is asked for before anything else so that refusal happens before any other detail is collected.
A child’s name and date of birth reach us only because a parent or guardian typed them into their own account. That is information about a minor given by an adult, not information collected from a child. Children cannot sign in, are never contacted by us directly, and are never asked for anything.
You can add, correct or remove a child from your account at any time, and removing one deletes the record. If you would rather we held nothing about your children until programs actually open, an account with no children on it is a perfectly good way to stay on the list.
Cookies and browser storage
This site sets one cookie, and only once you sign in: the session cookie that keeps you signed in. Signing out clears it.
It also stores one item in your browser’s local storage, named kraken.session-hint, recording only whether you are signed in and whether you are an administrator. It exists so the page header can draw the right buttons immediately instead of flickering. It contains no name, no email and no identifier.
This site uses Vercel Analytics, which sets no cookies. It records page views and basic device information in aggregate, with no cookies, no cross-site tracking and no advertising identifiers — so there is nothing here that can follow you to another website, and nothing that identifies you personally. There is still no cookie banner, because there is still nothing to consent to. There is no error tracking. If either changes, this page changes with it, first.
Typefaces are served from this site rather than from Google, so loading a page here does not tell Google you visited. Links to the venue open Google Maps, and links to our social accounts open those services — but only when you click them.
Who else can see it
Three service providers process information on our behalf, under their own terms, in order to run the site:
- Vercel
- Hosts the website and runs its server code. Traffic to the site passes through Vercel's infrastructure.
- Neon
- Runs the managed PostgreSQL database where accounts, profiles and children's records are stored.
- Resend
- Delivers the email this site sends — account, password and notification messages, and the messages the inquiry forms produce.
Beyond those, information is seen only by Kraken Academy people who need it to do their job. We would disclose information to someone else only where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect a child.
How long we keep it
Account and family details are kept for as long as you have an account with us, and are deleted when the account is deleted — deleting an account removes its profile, its children and their program interests together.
Messages sent through the forms on this site are not stored in any database. They arrive as email in the Academy’s inbox and stay there under ordinary mailbox retention.
Sign-in sessions expire on their own, and a password change ends every other session immediately.
Your choices
See what we hold. Your account page shows every field we have about you and your children. There is nothing held about you that is not on it, other than staff notes, which you can ask for.
Correct it. Children can be edited or removed from your account directly. To correct your own details, email us — the account page links to exactly that.
Delete it. Email us and we will delete your account and everything attached to it. Self-service deletion is not built yet; until it is, a request by email does the same job.
Stop hearing from us. Tell us and we will stop. There is no marketing list separate from the account list.
Security, changes and contact
Passwords are stored hashed, never in readable form. Traffic to the site is encrypted in transit. Administrative pages are restricted to accounts holding an administrator role. No system is perfect, and we do not claim ours is.
If this policy changes materially we will say so on this page, and the reviewed version will carry an effective date.
