We believe meaningful youth development happens when the adults and environments around a child reinforce the same healthy foundations: confidence, accountability, curiosity, resilience, empathy, discipline, communication, healthy habits, and a sense of belonging.
Our principles
Six ideas we build everything on
- Whole Child
- We look beyond performance. Physical growth matters. So do emotional regulation, confidence, communication, learning, relationships, decision making, creativity, and character.
- Whole Family
- Parents and caregivers are not spectators. They are essential partners. Kraken aims to provide communication, education, resources, and opportunities that help families support development outside program hours.
- Whole Community
- Children benefit when strong people and institutions work together. We want to connect families with coaches, educators, experts, businesses, municipalities, nonprofits, and volunteers who care about the same outcome.
- Development Over Pressure
- We want children challenged, but not defined by a single score, team placement, mistake, or moment.
- High Standards + Human Development
- We believe excellence and empathy can coexist. Strong programs should expect effort, accountability, preparation, and growth while recognizing that children develop at different rates.
- Connected Learning
- A lesson about resilience on the field should help in school. Nutrition education should improve recovery and family habits. Leadership should show up in the classroom, at home, and in the community.
What this looks like in practice
A philosophy that never changes a decision is decoration. These principles are meant to be load-bearing: they decide which programs launch and when, how coaches are recruited and reviewed, what a practice is expected to contain, how a difficult conversation with a family is handled, and which partnerships are worth having.
Where a principle conflicts with a shortcut, the principle is supposed to win. That is why programs are launching in stages rather than all at once, and why every program page on this site tells you honestly what stage it is at.
